If you’ve ever wondered, “Where did that come from?” in meetings, then don’t miss this chance to explore the power of feelings in a group. This event is run as part of the regular programme of the Bridge Builders Network, but is open to anyone interested in transforming the way churches respond to conflict. (Download flier here)

As with all Bridge Builders training events, there will be an emphasis on active learning and practical application. The programme will include teaching input, discussion, work in small groups and worship. We will pay particular attention to the tendency of most groups to ignore feelings and focus on intellectual or cognitive explanations for people’s response to what happens in the life of the group. A case study will be used as a way into exploring this issue, with the opportunity for each participant to reflect on an example from their own experience. We will explore how to become more “emotionally literate” in the church, and consider what some of the obstacles to this journey may be in our churches.

Presenter
Colin Patterson is assistant director of Bridge Builders, and an Anglican priest. He has worked as a training officer for the Diocese of Durham, is an experienced adult educator, and is author of the Grove booklet How to Learn Through Conflict.
